Employee monitoring

So waddup people? How's life going? It's me again!!

Today we're going to talk about business and technology, what is your opinion about employee monitoring. Here we'll be answering some of the most common questions about whether it would be good or bad to be monitored on work.

So let's start shooting:
1. Are there any particular occupations for which employee monitoring would be essential?
I think there are. For example: All of the government's jobs, and banks are some examples. Those would be the most important jobs at which employee monitoring could be essential, but other jobs at which it would be very important for employee to be monitored would be: like really important economical jobs and jobs that could be essential that all the information of the company had to stay inside.
2. Should it be required by law to inform employees that they are being monitored?
I think if should, of course privacy is important for the employee, but if they are responsible and hard working employees as they slam to be they would lose time at work or do things they aren't supposed to do. The worker is responsible for his or her acts so it must remain working their appropriate time. Anyway, if they told their employee's that they were being monitored they would react into a totally different reaction, sometimes it is even essential that the monitoring remain secret because the employee could be doing illegal things and it could be the only way to probe wether the incrimination where right, other things is that within the monitoring could be proof of the employee's effective work.
3. Should employees have a right to privacy when they use their personal email at work?
Yes. Even though is none of the boss' business to be monitoring their employee's mail it is also important for the business to monitor the information that's being exchanged from the company to people outside it. In fact sometimes within the mail monitoring the company could find a fraud from an employee. But in this case I think the company should tell the employee that their mail would be monitored so that they could stay low when they use in within work.
4. To what extent do you think monitoring of employees improves their productivity?
If the staff was spending too much time not doing work, their employer could communicate to them their lack of work that they have noticed and could make a change and improve about their work. It could also measure the time wasted within the working hours by employees to make statistics for the company so the company could know about the issue and how much it is affecting the productivity, what sites are the most influential, what site should be blocked, what is causing this program, etc.

Not-so-fun facts...
According to the survey 69% of employees waste time at work.
Most people (34%) said they routinely waste 30 minutes or less each day while on the clock. Nearly one-quarter (24%) said they waste between 30-60 minutes daily, with 11% claiming they spend several hours per day wasting time on non work-related items on a daily basis. Of the people who don't waste time each day, 21% reported slacking off 1-2 times a week while only 10% claimed they never waste time on the job.
About half of them claim that the Internet is their number ONE distraction.

Hope I could help
Until next time

Open Source: the good and the bad

Open Source: the good and the badWhat's an opens source?

Well if I may I'm going to introduce you guys to this very special topic about TA RA RA RAAAAAAA (Drums please) THE OPEN SOURCE

Well hello again and welcome to this little article about open source, first of all let me tell you what that is.

An open source is exactly it's name is an OPEN SOURCE is a  software whose source code is available for modification by anyone.

The main difference between an open source and a company's software is that anyone can change it and improve it, other that the typical business always changing it the way they want it, or having the source (or instructions to the program) to themselves.

There are several reasons why you would most likely choose an Open Source software other than the other types:

  • You have more control over the software and you can change it in whatever you like
  • Some people consider it more secure, because a company doesn't run it
  • It is adaptable to your own purpose or use
And over here are some reasons why people sometimes don't exactly like to prefer it:
  • Because it is really adaptable it can sometime be difficult to use until you adapt it or you adapt to it.
  • Because it's so public, some people may use it to introduce viruses into the system
  • In the program there can be some problems but because (again) the program has no manual it doesn't exactly has a manual to solving these problems, so it could be difficult to fix this

But in the end you have the ultimate deception of what to get, after all it's your computer and your work you will be doing in the program.

Why does my computer need an OS?

Hello Again! :)

Hey, how's it going? Do you want to know something amazing? Do you know that right now you're using your OS? Do you even know what OS means? No? Really? Well if you don't let me tell you, (if you do then let' just review it).

OS stands for Operating System. And you may ask yourself what an operating system is, well an OS is a software that enables the computer hardware to communicate and operate with the computer software. Without a computer OS a computer and software programs would be useless.

"The OS function is to organize and control hardware and software so that the device it lives in behaves in a flexible but predictable way." just like HowStuffWorks affirms.

Do all computer have OS? Nope, not all computers have OS. There are some electronic devices that don't need an OS to work, for example your calculator, because it only has one set of tasks to perform, very straightforward input to expect (a numbered keypad and a few pre-set buttons) and simple, never-changing hardware to control. "For a computer like this, an operating system would be unnecessary baggage, driving up the development and manufacturing costs significantly and adding complexity where none is required. Instead, the computer in a microwave oven simply runs a single hard-wired program all the time." as HowStuffWorks explains.

Now let me ask you, do you know the 3 most common OS?

Well, the three most common OS are:
Apple

Linux

And Microsoft

How does the OS help my computer work? What types of OS exist?

The OS help the computer by making 2 basic things.
  • It manages the hardware and software resources of the system.
  • It provides a stable, consistent way for applications to deal with the hardware without having to know all the details of the hardware

  • There are 4 types of OS
    1. Real-time operating system (RTOS) - Real-time operating systems are used to control machinery, scientific instruments and industrial systems. A very important part of an RTOS is managing the resources of the computer so that a particular operation executes in precisely the same amount of time, every time it occurs.
    2. Single-user, single task - This OS is designed to manage the computer so that one user can effectively do one thing at a time.
    3. Single-user, multi-tasking - This is the type of OS most people use on their desktop and laptop computers today. There are OS that will let a single user have several programs in operation at the same time.
    4. Multi-user - Allows many different users to take advantage of the computer's resources simultaneously. The OS must make sure that the requirements of the various users are balanced, and that each of the programs they are using has sufficient and separate resources so that a problem with one user doesn't affect the entire community of users.

    Is data really deleted?

I just read this article about how things never get eliminated completely of your hard disk unless you destroy de hard drive.

The article talked mostly about this experiment about some students made of buying computers and searching for private SUPER IMPORTANT information (such as credit cards, fotos, and important passwords and data) and got like 74% of that information back, and only 9% of people had correctly deleted everything on their computer.

I talked to my mother about this and she wasn't completely shocked because she says that one of her friends is really good with technology and that she's always telling those things to her friends. But when I talked to my father about it he REALLY was shocked because he truly didn't know that the things he erased weren't completely gone, and because he got one of his computer stolen he was super nervous about the information that he had that.

Now I tell you what would you do if all the information that you've ever written, seen or played was founded by someone else?

    About my Laptop

    My laptop... let me think.

Well, my laptop is a MacBook Pro, although I used to have a white macbook unibody, but I got it changed for my birthday. Yey for me!

I love Mac products, especially their computers (although I have nothing against PC's) they make it so easy to use. That is a really good advantage for me because I like to make a LOT of movies and Mac just makes it easier to use.

With every advantage comes a disadvantage, even though my computer is easy to use and really good with movies, it slows down a LOT when I'm making a movie, it also slows down with some pages and it isn't as fast as they say it is. Another disadvantage it has is that if you want a laptop with retina display and a DVD drive you can't get both, it either one or the other, which bugs me because I want to watch movies and have a great quality of pixels for my pictures. (Or you could get a DVD drive separately which costs a lot more)

The reviews some of the people have given the MacBook Pro is that it is very lightweight (it weights just fine but not extremely lightweight) that it has a better processor and that now it's cheaper than it was before (True I won't argue with that, it used to cost $1,699 and now it costs $1,299) and that it has less hours of life now (it looks just fine for me, I mostly never get it out of my charger).  Some people say that there is no big difference as how it started and how it is now, the only thing that has changed is the new program "Mavericks OS".

Now talking about the technical stuff the Macbook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2012.

Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
